Genevieve R. HANNA

HANNA Genevieve R. Genevieve Regina Hanna, 80, of Toledo, OH, peacefully passed to eternal life with our Lord on December 11, 2009, in her home where she was surrounded and lovingly cared for by her family in her final days. Gen was born on January 21, 1929, in Sykesville, PA to Luke and Mary (Skibo) Kaurich. She grew up the youngest of nine siblings and married Mark N. Hanna, Jr., her husband of 61 years. Together they settled in Toledo to raise their family. A loving wife and mother, Gen was truly the heart of her family. She was dedicated to the full time job of raising six active children. She supported them in numerous activities through the years although when it came to sporting events she usually found it more painful to watch than they did to compete. Gen was a member of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Parish for 48 years. She raised her children in the Catholic faith and lovingly supported her husband when he converted to Catholicism in the early 1980s. She had a competitive spirit that served her well in her favorite pastimes. Gen was an avid bridge player and achieved the distinction of life master. She shared a love of golf with her husband that passed on to several children and grandchildren, and inspired an annual family tournament held the past 11 years. Diverse in her interests, Gen thoroughly enjoyed trips to the casino that her family fondly referred to as a “day at the office.” She diligently followed her favorite stocks, with a passion for one in particular that she avidly supported, and she could always tell you the closing price for the Dow. Gen enjoyed more than 25 years of retirement with her husband, dividing time between her home in Toledo and a winter home on the Gulf of Mexico in Palm Harbor, FL. She shared numerous Easter vacations with family who traveled south each year. Precious memories of that time together live on and will be recounted for years to come. One such trip spawned a NCAA March Madness family pool that has continued for over 20 years. She was a member of Heatherdowns Country Club for over 40 years, and successfully competed in district golf as a member of the Toledo Women’s District Golf Association. She was also a member of the Innisbrook Golf Resort in Florida where she proudly carded a hole in one in 1996. Gen is truly loved and will be deeply missed by her family, but they rejoice in knowing that she is resting in the loving embrace of eternal life. Cherished memories of her will live on in the hearts of her children, Ronald (Peggy) Hanna, Mary (Fred) Koralewski, John Hanna, Patricia Hanna, Mark (Terri) Hanna, and Timothy Hanna; grandchildren Matthew (Leigh) Hanna, James (Amy) Hanna, Sara Hanna, Stephen (Jamey) Koralewski, Brian (Mary) Koralewski, Nancy (Bill) Fehringer, Jessica (Travis) Custer, Michael (Mary) Adamski, Christopher (Courtney) Adamski, Nicholas Adamski, Kyle (Natalie) Hanna, Melanie (Nate) Christian, and Drew, Bradley and Dylan Hanna; and great-grandchildren, Alec, Hannah, Emma, Nathanael, Madison, Caleb, Eli, Avery, Sophia, Ayden, Grace, Mark, Ava, Kaelan, Logan, Emerson and Jack. Gen was preceded in death by her husband, Mark; her parents; her brothers, John, George and Joseph Kaurich, and sisters, Mary Kevern, Anne Van Dyke, Helen Zimmerman, Margaret Arnholt and Frances Bliss. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Tuesday from 2-8 p.m. where a Scripture Service will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday beginning at 9:30 a.m., in the mortuary, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s of Heatherdowns Church at 10 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Tuition Assistance Fund in memory of Genevieve R. Hanna or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
