Mary Ann GRINDLE

GRINDLE Mary Ann Mary Ann Grindle, 90, of Maumee, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born on August 28, 1920 in Toledo, Ohio to Robert “Earl” and Rose (Steger) Smurr. While in college, she worked at Meyer-Johnsen Women’s Clothing Store. She then worked as a payroll clerk for Libbey Owens Ford Plexiglass during WWII as her “war effort,” and also as an elementary teacher for six years at the former St. Ann’s Parish on Horace Street. Following raising her own four children, she went on to raise two grandchildren, sang in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help choir for 40 years and was also involved in many other events there as well, and volunteered her time in the St. Joseph Auxiliary with the Little Sister’s of the Poor for many years. She loved to work with wood and crafted many items for her grandchildren. While her husband John was still living, they annually traveled to Treasure Island, FL and made many lifelong friends there. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything. Mary Ann is survived by her daughters, Carole (Ron) Steger of Kalamazoo, MI and Sue (Kim) Rumpf of Perrysburg; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John Grindle; daughter, Lynn Grindle; son, Rob Grindle; grandson, David Hoffman and sister, Catherine McWilliams. Family and friends may gather to celebrate Mary Ann’s life Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2255 Central Grove, Toledo, OH 43614. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Mary Ann’s request would be that you contribute to Ohio Right to Life, Central Catholic High School, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Little Sisters of the Poor or Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. Arrangements by Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, (419) 893-7686. www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
