STEMEN Helen V. (Knurek) Helen V. Stemen, 91, of Perrysburg, passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg on Tuesday, October 5, 2010. She was born in Rossford, Ohio, on April 5, 1919, to Teofil and Sophie (Mucha) Knurek and attended Rossford High School. Helen was married on November 13, 1937, to Herbert L. Stemen, who preceded her in death on August 16, 1986. For over 20 years, Helen worked as a waitress for the Toledo Country Club. She was a member of St. Rose Church were she served as Corresponding Secretary for the St. Rose Altar Sodality. Helen enjoyed playing the piano, knitting, sewing, playing bingo and playing the organ for Heartland Nursing Home. Helen is survived by her children, Ronald M. Stemen of Pensacola, FL, Kathleen J. Badik of Toledo and Margaret L. “Peggy” Vrooman of Perrysburg; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grand children; and two great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn J. Champnoise; son, Robert A. Stemen, and brothers, John and Joseph E. Knurek. Friends will be received from 2-9 P.M. on Sunday in the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) where Scripture Services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Sunday evening. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. on Monday, October 11, 2010, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 A.M. at St. Rose Church, 215 E. Front Street in Perrysburg. Burial will follow in Fort Meigs Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
