Richard C. BRANDEL
BRANDEL Richard C. Richard Charles Brandel passed away Friday, January 20, 2012, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was a lifelong resident of Toledo, born May 19, 1922, to Marie (Bittman) and Alphonse Brandel. Richard was a 1940 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish. Rick served in the United States Army during WWII with the 102nd Division(Ozarks). On returning from military service, he began work at Superior Typesetting, where he met his future wife of 55 years, Esther Hoffman. He then worked at the Toledo Blade until his retirement in 1984. South Toledo residents have fond memories of Rick as the Pumpkin Man of Mapleway Drive every Halloween for over 40 years. Rick devoted many years after retirement volunteering at the Claver House. He was a resident of Swan Creek Retirement Village the past 5 years. Rick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther, and his sister, Catherine Taylor. He is survived by his children, Kathleen (Steven) Hiss, Barbara (Mark) Spiro, Carol (Terry) Hepner, Thomas, and John (Margaret) Brandel; brothers, William (Alice) and A. Joseph (Patricia); as well as many loving grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Sunday, January 22, 2012, (today) from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday beginning at 11:15 a.m. in the mortuary followed by the funeral mass in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church at 12:00 p.m. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
