Helen  (DeLores) SCHARDT

SCHARDT Helen (DeLores) Helen (DeLores) Schardt, 83, of Maumee, Ohio died Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Heatherdowns Rehabilitation and Care Center with Hospice and her family by her side. Helen was a Libby High School graduate and worked for Ohio Bell. She then worked for the City of Toledo as a PBX operator and later moved to the Lucas County Government Center where she worked as a communications operator for nearly 25 years, retiring in 1999. While working downtown, Helen took TARTA to work each day and had a good time with “the back of the bus bunch,” bringing treats for birthdays. Everyone enjoyed Helen’s baking. She loved to cook, bake, and do cake decorating. Helen also loved to sew and make pillow case dolls with beautiful embroidery, and recently finished a beautiful red work lap quilt. Gardening was another hobby she enjoyed, mostly perennial flowers. Helen was preceded in death by her mother, Lucy Paludetti; brother, John DeLores; sisters, Grace Quadraccia and Elvira Berkey, and nephew, James A. Berkey. She is survived by her sisters, Margaret Emans-Ryan (Vern) and Esther Sarchiz-Wyckoff (Richard); daughters, Diane (Dave) Vogt and Cheryl (Albert) Papenfus, and son, Thomas M. Schardt. Also surviving are grandchildren, David (Tammy) Vogt, Danielle Vogt and fiancé Jean Paul Pilette, Amanda (Tim) Eatherly, Airman 1st Class Patrick Papenfus USAF, James Papenfus, Robert Papenfus, Tabitha, and Katie Jo Schardt, Natalie Connley; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Ian, and Trenton Vogt; special nephew Reginald Schardt, who always made her laugh; and special friend Liz Daley, who was a big part of her devotion to church and the Rosary. Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 2 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Monday at 10 a.m., with entombment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a

charity of the donor’s choice. Helen will be missed so very much by her family and friends. The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio and the staff of Heatherdowns Rehabilitation and Care Center, particularly the nursing staff on the North Unit, for their care and support during this difficult time.
