Mother of Patty Savona Speiker ’81 passed away

SAVONA Anna Jean (Seib) Anna Jean (Seib) Savona of Maumee, OH passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 1, 1935 in Maryland to John Joseph Seib and Isabelle (Rae) Seib. Anna graduated from Beall High in Frostburg, Maryland in 1953 and, soon after, moved to the Detroit, Michigan area where she met her future husband, Peter J. Savona. They were married June 30th, 1956. Following the birth of their three children, they relocated to Maumee, OH in 1966. Anna was known for her love of children and she touched the lives of many throughout her life. In addition to her own three children, Anna fostered over 25 children in her home. Following her years of foster care, she worked at the Sunshine and Miami Children’s Homes where she cared for special needs children. Over the years, Anna also babysat many children regularly in her home, several of them for years. Anna Jean loved to host family gatherings and always enjoyed competing in a game of cards or dominoes. She was an active member of the St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Parish. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Peter Savona, Maumee; her daughter, Patty Speiker and husband, Charlie, Waterville; two sons, Michael Savona and wife, Patti, Lakeside, and Tim Savona and wife, Pam, Fishers, IN; 11 grandchildren, Tim Savona Jr., Des Moines, IA, Chelsea Savona, Indianapolis, Ashlea Savona, Seattle, WA, Jennifer Zeunik and husband, Joseph, Brownsburg, IN, Amanda Jennings, Columbus, Brent Jennings and wife, Emily, Niceville, FL, Nicole Frisch and husband, Nick, Fostoria, Kari Patrick and husband, Cole, Avon, Nate Savona and wife, Kelleen, Chicago, IL, Kayle Savona, Lakeside, and A.J. Savona, Lakeside; 5 great-grandchildren (and counting), Dylan Savona, Elliana Frisch, Evianne Frisch, Macey Zeunik, and Connor Patrick; sisters, Betty Maurer, Fredonia, PA and Patricia Martin, Frostburg, MD; brother, Fred Seib and wife, Ramona, Cumberland, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Angelica Savona; brothers, Joseph Seib, Leo Seib, and Jacob Seib, and sisters, Wilhelmina Dye, Agnes Dawson, and Mary Brant. Friends and family will be received at The Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home 501 Conant St. Maumee on Monday, July 30, 2012, from 3:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. ’82 Susan Rucinski Futrell passed away

FUTRELL Susan M. Susan M. Futrell, 48, of Toledo, passed away July 13, 2012, at her home with family by her loving side. She was the daughter of Andrew and Marcia Rucinski, born May 1, 1964 in Toledo, Ohio. Susan was a graduate of McAuley High School and the University of Toledo. She married Douglas A. Futrell in Toledo on September 4, 2004. She spent her career as a professional sales representative and bartender. Susan spent her entire life enjoying her family and friends and insisting on always making new friends. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, incredible friends, and everyone that had the pleasure to know her. Surviving are her husband, Douglas A. Futrell; parents, Andrew and Marcia Rucinski; step-daughter, Brittany (Matt) Hainen; sister, Donna (Dave) Gartz; brothers, Andy (Janet) Rucinski and Scott (Nancy) Rucinski, and nieces, Ashley Gartz and Kayla Rucinski. Mother of Karen Nirschl ’72 & Judy Nirschl Horton ’64 passed away

NIRSCHL Jane F. Jane F. Nirschl, age 93, of Toledo, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012, in St. Luke’s Hospital. A graduate of Notre Dame Academy and Mary Manse College, she taught third grade at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns School for many years. Jane enjoyed traveling, golf, line dancing, book discussion groups and walking. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert F. Nirschl; son, Ronald Nirschl, and brother, Robert Kraemer. She is survived by her children, Joseph (Sandra), Judith (John) Horton, Rick, Larry (Mary) and Karen Nirschl; brother, Raymond Kraemer; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, and one great- great-granddaughter. Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Son of Gloria Lewis ’82 (and nephew of Joyce Lewis ’81) passed away

LEWIS Deonte’ Damone Deonte’ Damone Lewis 26, passed away June 10. 2012, at Toledo Hospital. He was born November 21, 1985, to Bobby Neal Taylor and Gloria Kaye Lewis. He attended Old Orchard and Nathan Hale from grades Kindergarten through Sixth grade. His seventh and eighth grade years were spent at Robinson Jr. High School. Deonte’ attended Scott High School and was a member of the baseball and football teams. He graduated from Jesup W. Scott High School in 2005. After graduating from High School he attended the University of Cincinnati. He professed his love for Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was an active member at Bethlehem and served on many ministries but most recently served as a member of the security ministry. He had a natural passion and love for all kinds of people. Mr. Lewis began working for the Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities in 2007. His co-workers recall him as being fun-loving, hard-working and courteous. During the Christmas season he would dress up as Santa Clause for the consumers of DD. His quick wit and gift of comedy made him the most entertaining Santa Clause at Lucas County. Deonte loved to play football and was a defensive back for the Northwest Ohio Knights football team. He was a football coach for the seventh and eighth grade Gesu Greyhounds. He was a mentor and advisor to the young men on his team. Te’ was innovative and creative. He and a couple of his friends decided to start a movement known as All Day. He acquired the name Mr. All Day. The All Day squad went around having fun and getting other people to join in their shenanigans. Deonte loved his family and spent many holiday’s making them laugh so hard that they would begin to cry. He especially loved his nephews and nieces and showed it by the time he spent just playing around with them. Deonte Damone Lewis went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2012. He will never be forgotten and leaves, mother, Gloria Lewis; father, Bobby Neal Taylor (Kandace); grandparents, Wilbur and Odestia Lewis; brothers, De Lorean (Brandi) Lewis and Bobby Neal Taylor, Jr.; sisters, Danielle Lewis, Yolanda (Charles) Ross and Shereda Bannister; special friend, Danielle Yowpp, and mentor, Jay Lee Shavers, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends to cherish his memories. Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. with a semi-memorial service beginning 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012, at Dale-Riggs Funeral Home on 572 Nebraska Ave. Toledo, OH 43604. Father of Kathy Mick (77) passed away

MICK Harold E. Harold E. Mick, age 87, of Toledo, passed away Saturday July 7, 2012, at the University of Toledo Medical Center. A United States Navy veteran of WWII, he served aboard the U.S.S. Pollux. Harold was active for many years baking cookies for hospice families and volunteering for Meals on Wheels. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Pat. He is survived by his children, Larry (Sue), Maureen (Paul) Travalini, Brian (Marcia), Patrick (Kathy), Kathy (Jack) Trzcinski, and Scott, as well as 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church at 11:00 a.m., where the family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Father of Sue Rehard (’72) passed away

REHARD Richard “Dick” “Lets Fly Grandpa” Richard F. Rehard of Millbury, Ohio passed away peacefully on July 5, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born October 10, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio to Thomas and Elizabeth Rehard. He married the love of his life Naomi and together raised 3 wonderful daughters. Dick began his 37 year banking career at Ohio Citizens bank (OC), taking time off to serve his country as an army medic for four years during the Korean Conflict. When Dick returned home, he continued his career with OC managing the mortgage department and eventually as Vice President, Auditor of Farmers Savings Bank. Dick was also a lifetime member and volunteer of Good Shepherd Church. Dick was a compassionate and gentle man. Those who knew him often commented on his kindness and selflessness. While we continue to celebrate his life, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Elizabeth; sister, Carol, and brother, John. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Naomi; daughters, Susan (Nick) Hormozian, Karen (Richard) Smietana, Mary Rehard; granddaughter, Sarah (Randy) Carpenter; brother, Arnold Rehard, and sister-in-law, Rita Rehard, and many nieces and nephews. MOYNIHAN Vivian Sarah Vivian Sarah Moynihan, 85, died on April 24, 2012. Born in Chicago, IL on December 14, 1926 to Henry Peter and Sarah (Orr) Michels. Dear sister of Henry Paul Michels. Married her beloved Joseph Francis Moynihan on April 24, 1954. The best Mom in the world to Vivian (the late Dennis J. Young), Humphrey Joseph (Connie Gohmann), Brendan (Cathleen Swope), John (Cathy Gorkowski), and Sara Moynihan whom she held so close in her heart. Deeply loved Nana, to Katie, Meghan, Tyler, Conor, Brendan, David, Owen, John Patrick, Colin, Bailey, Mary Kathryn, and Grace. A gifted educator, she taught for many years at Step by Step Nursery School on Glendale Avenue in Toledo. All who knew her have been blessed by her life. Father of Marcia Poss ’77 passed away

POSS Edward F. Jr. Edward F. Poss, Jr., 82, of Margate, FL died peacefully in his home on Sunday, July 1, 2012. He had been battling cancer for 2 years. He was born in Bellevue, Ohio on January 18, 1930, and moved to Toledo at age 5. He graduated from Central Catholic in Toledo and John Carroll University in Cleveland, where he attended many class reunions and was on the steering committee for the reunions. He was a sales engineer for Harold Taylor Co., Kern Truck Sales and Brennan Industrial Sales. He had his own business, Poss Equipment Co., for several years. He gave of his time by ushering for Christ the King Catholic Church. Golf was a life-time sport he enjoyed with family and friends. He had his Hole-In-One on South Heatherdowns GC in 1982. He and his wife, Betty, were avid Notre Dame fans and attended numerous home games-sometimes taking guests with them in their motorhome. The family enjoyed many vacations in the motorhome. Ed and Betty traveled extensively to many foreign countries. Their favorite was Spain, which they visited three times. For several years they split residency between Toledo and Fort Lauderdale, moving permanently to Southeast Florida in 2010. Besides his wife, Betty (Fitz), of 55 years; he is survived by his loving children, Ed III (Vickie), San Diego, Tom (Lori), Miramar, Marcia Mrkva, Hallandale, Susan, Sarasota; sister-in-law, Joanne, Oakland Park; 8 loving grandchildren, and a sister, Maureen Backiewicz, Black Lick, OH; predeceased by beloved son, Bill. A Memorial Mass was celebrated at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 9950 NW 28th Street, Coral Springs, FL 33065 on July 6, 2012. Interment will be private at a later date.
