Mother of Susan Hoag Calderon ’81 passed away

Patsy Ruth (Martin)
Patsy Ruth (Martin) Hoag passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2013, at The University of Toledo Medical Center at the age of 82. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on July 30, 1931, to Maude and Jess Martin. She was a life-long resident Toledo. She graduated from Whitney Vocational School/Libbey High School in 1949. She attended Toledo University, now known as the University of Toledo. Patsy worked for many employers over the years such as Dolly and Joe’s Restaurant, Tiedtke’s Department Store, Charles Hoag and Company CPA Firm, Arnold Industries as a Quality Control Supervisor/Inspector and her family farm. She also volunteered for many organizations through the years such as The Satellites at the Medical College of Ohio now known as the University of Toledo Medical Center, Lucas County Home for the Aged. She volunteered with Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts when her children were involved in those organizations. She supported her grandsons in their endeavors with Boy Scouts. Patsy enjoyed many hobbies such as ceramics, china painting, coin collecting, antiques, sewing, baking and cooking. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling abroad especially traveling to England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Turkey, Spain and Portugal. She enjoyed many vacations traveling with her husband and children to National and State Parks throughout the United States in which they camped along the way. Patsy enjoyed spending time with her family and truly loved being a grandmother to her grandsons and the family pets Holland Huckleberry Hucky and Hucky Too. She also enjoyed riding her golf cart around the neighborhood to visit with the neighbors.
Patsy was married to Charles Hoag for 51 years and he preceded her in death in December 23, 2001. Patsy is survived by her children, Charles S. (Terri) Hoag, Paul M. Hoag and Susan D. (Edward) Calderon; grandchildren, Thomas, Casey and Michael Calderon; brother, Richard Martin of San Diego, CA, and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family would like to thank Mom’s caregivers the nursing staff at The Lakes of Monclova for the compassionate and tender loving care they gave to our mother over the last several months. Mom was loved very deeply by her children and grandchildren and will be missed more than words can convey, but she is at rest and free from pain and suffering.
Family and friends will be gathering on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at 12:00 p.m., where a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., Toledo, Ohio. Interment will be private. The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Patsy’s name to the Boy Scouts of America local council Erie Shores Council P.O. Box 8728, Toledo, OH 43623 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital .
