Betty J. McCrea, age 89, formerly of Perrysburg, OH most recently of Pemberville, OH passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Otterbein Senior Life Style Community, Pemberville, OH. She was born on August 10, 1925, in Ypsilanti, MI to Kenneth and Ruby (Ambercine) Davis. On April 25, 1946, she married James P. McCrea in Goshen, IN and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2013. For many years Betty was a chief operator with Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Ypsilanti, MI and also a wonderful homemaker. Betty was an active member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Perrysburg, the Altar Rosary Society and Christmas Bazaar Chairman.

Betty was a gourmet cook and for many years donated the “Dessert of the Month” prize raffled off annually during the St. Rose Christmas Bazaar, as well as donated a catered gourmet dinner for ten assisted by her daughter, Kate. During the 1980s and 90s, Betty wrote a food column for the Suburban Press, published a cookbook and appeared on local radio to discuss culinary trends. At the behest of Mayor Martha Baldoni, Betty served on the Perrysburg Parks Commission and was instrumental in establishing parks and preserving green space throughout the community.

Betty is survived by her children, Kathleen (Ben) Rice of Woodville, Maureen (Bob) Schell of Swanton, Heather Goodman of Port Clinton, Keith (Suzanne) McCrea of Manchester, NH; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and brother, Marvin (Marlene) Davis of Myrtle Beach, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; son-in-law, Sam Goodman; brothers, Newton, Kenneth, Dale, Clayton and sister, Leta McCrea.

A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, September 27, 2014, at 10 a.m. from St. Rose Catholic Church, Perrysburg, OH. Inurnment will be in St. Rose Parish Cemetery. A bereavement luncheon will be served at the church immediately following the cemetery committal services. Arrangements are being handled by the Marsh Funeral Home, Woodville, OH. Considerations for memorial contributions are to Otterbein Senior Life Style Community- Benevolent Fund or Southern Care Hospice.
