Kathy A. (Kirkpatrick)

Kathy A. Veitch, 58, of Toledo, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 20, 2015, due to complications from Congestive Heart Failure. Born November 3, 1956, to John M. and Anne F. Kirkpatrick, Kathy was the oldest of seven girls. Kathy graduated from E.L. Bowsher High School in 1974 prior to completing several years of college. During that time, she married her high school sweetheart, Charles Rufenacht. After the death of Charles, she reconnected with her first love, Jeffrey Veitch. Kathy and Jeff were united in marriage on June 27, 1980. She was looking forward to her 35th anniversary. What Kathy was most proud of was the family that she and Jeff created. There was nothing that brought her more pride and joy than watching her three children in their pursuit of education, careers and developing families of their own. She was fortunate to see the births of her three grandchildren who affectionately refer to her as their “KK.”

Throughout her life, she took on many roles from a nursing aide in high school to her most cherished position as school nurse at OLPH. Kathy was an eternal caregiver, always placing others before herself. She was often seen walking the streets of south Toledo with Jeff and her treasured boxer, Cubby. Kathy was an incredibly artistic person and enjoyed everything from t-shirt making to painting ceramics. She was most happy when outside working in the yard. Kathy loved talking on the phone to her beloved sisters, children and close friends. She will forever be remembered for her ability to listen first and give sound advice second. Kathy was known for her strength and ability to overcome adversity. No matter the situation, she managed to bring laughter and a smile to those who surrounded her. Her spirited sense of humor will be sorely missed.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, first husband and two infant children. Kathy is survived by her best friend, number one confidant and love of her life, Jeffrey Paul Veitch. She is also survived by her children, Jessica (Adam) Bennett, Adrienne (David) Estes and Jeffrey Veitch Jr. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Henry and Oliver Bennett and Grace Estes. Surviving as well are her sisters, Jenifer, Angela, Ruth, Amy, Jean and Jodi; many nieces and nephews, and countless special friends, including Jan, Janet and Louise.

Friends and family are invited to visit from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave. Funeral services will begin at Walter’s at 10:30 a.m. on Friday followed by an 11:00 a.m. mass at OLPH church. Memorial contributions may be made to the
