Brother of Pat Lynch ’68 passed away

John Russell Lynch died suddenly of a heart attack on April 14, 2016. He now joins his parents Elizabeth and Thomas Van Aarle Lynch and his great-aunt Minnie Van Aarle Kelly. Left to mourn his sudden and unexpected passing but also to remember him so fondly are his two brothers, Thomas Van Aarle (Caroline) Lynch and James (Jennie Hammett) Lynch and his three sisters, Sharon (William) Michalak, Susan (Marvin) Feingold, and Patricia Lynch. Uncle John will also be dearly missed by his nieces and nephews, Thomas V. Lynch III and Chris (Susan) Lynch, Marty Michalak, Julie (Chris) Bremer, Mark Michalak, John Michalak, Molly Feingold, John P.L. Mills, Ian S. L. Mills, and Simone Hammett-Lynch along with 10 great-nieces and nephews.
John was a 1971 graduate of St. Francis De Sales High School and subsequently earned a degree in Physics from the University of Toledo. He spent most of his career conducting studies in infrared tank identification as a civilian scientist for the U.S. Army at its Aberdeen, MD Proving Grounds.
John was an accomplished musician on both the piano and guitar. His “stage name” throughout many living room theatrical and talent show productions was Johnny Midnight. He always played the finale sing along piano rendition of New York, New York at these productions.
He had a kind, soft-spoken manner and preferred to listen much of the time. When he did interject a comment it would typically be both astute and funny. When he retired he returned to his hometown to be near his family. He loved going to the movies, making improvements to his home and was so proud of his yard. He could always be counted on to help his family in any way.
John was mechanically gifted and owned several vintage cars which he kept running long past their useful lifespans. He had a keen curiosity as well as an encyclopedic knowledge of a wide array of subjects.
Above all he was a truly kind, caring and wonderful human being who loved his family almost as much as they loved him.
