Mother of Rhea Ballard-Thrower ’79 passed away

Posted by mcauleyhighschool on June 24, 2016

I received this message from Rhea:

Passing this information along, since I know my of my classmates knew my mom.  My mother did not want her obit in the paper, so that is why you did not find it. — smile.  She was truly an original.

Crazy world.  Kim Ellis’ mom and my mom died within a week of each other. Her father spoke at my mom’s memorial service.

Message from Sister Marilyn Gottemoeller

Posted by mcauleyhighschool on June 18, 2016

I am unsure of the exact years Sister taught at McAuley but it appears it was in the Mid ’70’s.

“Thanks for the newsletter.  I believe this is the first time I have seen it on line and appreciate receiving it that way.  I will not be able to attend the August gathering because of being in New Orleans for one of our younger sisters who will make her profession of vows that day…and she lived with me here in the Mercy novitiate last year.

As you can tell from my address below, I do mission coordination, developing a 4 year program of formation for the Boards of Trustees of our 16 Mercy sponsored ministries throughout an 8 state area.  It is just part time since I live here in St. Louis in the novitiate (what I call novice “boot camp” because it is a year of concentrated learning and integrating the understanding of the vows, religious communal living, etc. and discerning whether this life is what is where God is calling her.

There are several of us sisters in final vows, with years of experience behind us who help form daily community living with the novices.  We professed and the novices are from California, New York, Texas, New Jersey, Arkansas, Missouri, and me from Ohio: we get a variety of life experiences, different ministries, and have some great sharings.

I was at the gathering a few years ago when I flew up and stayed with Sister Joanne Boellner.  Maybe next year….

Enjoy the gathering and telling of stories!

Sister Marilyn Gottemoeller, RSM
