Mrs. Barbara DeMars – Passed away – (Geometry teacher)

Barbara Lynne Julius DeMars died peacefully on December 25, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 14, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio, to Carl and Dorothy (Greenwald) Julius.

Barbara married John Joseph DeMars on August 29, 1964, and together they enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Barbara graduated from Libbey High School in 1960 and the University of Toledo in 1966, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.She taught Math at McAuley High School from 1963-1970, and Libbey from 1975-2001. Barbara also worked part time at Toledo Trust Bank during her summer college years. Barbara took many classes at Kent State University, working to earn her Master’s degree. She was a longtime, active member of her church, Bethel Lutheran.Barbara and John enjoyed summering with their family at the Lazy River Campground in Pioneer, Ohio. She volunteered at UTMC, and enjoyed traveling with her church group to Russia, China and Australia. Barbara enjoyed visiting with her sister, Bonnie, in San Francisco, while attending her teacher’s conventions.She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Shannon Keefer; son, Rob (Kelly) DeMars; grandchildren, Lilly and Cole Keefer, Justin and Max DeMars, and Taylor Rhoades; her sister, Bonnie Julius (Richard) Kachure.Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd. on Thursday, December 28 from 5-8 p.m. The Funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Coyle on Friday, December 29th, with burial at Toledo Memorial Park. Joyce Westenkirchner Cook ’74

In Loving Memory of
Joyce A. Cook
1956 – 2012
Joyce Ann Cook, 56, passed away on November 27, 2012. She was born on July 26, 1956 to the late Delphine and Frank
Westenkirchner in Toledo, Ohio.
Joyce was a dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, sister and daughter. Her granddaughter, Michaella, was her
pride and joy. She adored her “big, loud family”, especially cook-outs and holiday get-togethers. Joyce enjoyed working
with stained glass and gardening. Joyce was an animal lover; she raised and trained Fjord horses and numerous pets
were her constant companions.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mike. Left to cherish her memory are
her granddaughter, Michaella; daughter, Heather (Jeff) Sullivan; siblings, David (Robby), Laura (Gene), Paul (Rhina),
Frank (Wanda); along with many nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.
Services will be held privately by the family.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals, 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128

Mother of Karen ’64 and Ann Treter ’72 passed away

Leona Ann (Ozarzak) Treter

Leona Ann (Ozarzak) Treter, age 97, went to meet her maker and reunite with her beloved husband Ernie on February 4, 2018 after a short illness.

She and Ernie raised their five children in Toledo but vacationed every summer for three weeks in Traverse City, MI, where they later retired.Her favorite time of year was Christmas which she always made magical. Her love of cooking and baking and talent for it would truly shine that time of year.She also was involved in volunteer work which included Little Sisters of the Poor, past president of OLPH Altar Society and Mercy Guild, but of all her accomplishments nothing was more important than being involved with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Her husband, Ernest Treter preceded her in death as did her great-grandchildren, Ruby and Louie Treter and Harrison Mack.Surviving are her children, John (Leslie) Treter, Karen (Charlie) Kaufman, Doug (MaryLee) Treter, Ann (Robert) Schmalzried, Terri (Pam) Treter; 16 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at Saint Joan of Arc Church on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. before the service. A Rosary Service will be at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Coyle Funeral Home, Toledo, OH is assisting the family with the arrangements.

A special thank you to the caregivers of Orchard Creek Assisted Living, Traverse City, MI for the exceptional love, care and compassion given to our mother. Another thank you to Hospice of Michigan for helping our mother take her final journey to heaven with as much comfort and peace as humanly possible.
