David Lee Toerne
The world has lost a loving father and grandfather, a witty brother, a fun loving uncle and cousin, a dedicated letter carrier, a close-knit childhood chum, and a caring and giving friend. David Lee Toerne, the eighth of eleven children and son of Aileen and Richard Toerne died on Monday morning, April 30, 2018 in a tragic car accident after suffering a heart attack as he was driving to work. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Aileen, and is survived by his daughters, Aileen Toerne and Julie Toerne, their mother, Carol Tillman, along with his grandson Joshua, all of Burbank, CA. Born on June 16, 1958, David spent his formative years in Maumee, OH and attended St. Joseph Grade School and St. Johns Jesuit High School. A spirit of adventure took him to southern California where he worked for Nielsen-EDI in the film industry after his college days at Bowling Green State University, but he returned to the area that he loved best and settled back in the south end of Toledo working for the U.S. Postal Service. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and O.L.P.H. Catholic Church where he served as a lector. David also leaves behind his siblings, Lynne Toerne (Santa Cruz, CA), Rick Toerne (Annette, Scottsdale, AZ), Suzen Toerne (Maumee, OH) Steve Toerne (Cindy, Waterville, OH), Beth Basilius (Dwight, Santa Cruz, CA) Kevin Toerne (Sara, Fort Wayne, IN) Lisa Basting (Chris, Huron, OH) Judith FitzGibbons (Jim, Trumbull, CT) Thomas Toerne (Kelly, Walbridge, OH) and Tim Toerne (Laurie, Maumee, OH) and many, many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family will be gathering to share memories on Sunday, May 6th, between the hours of 4 and 8 at Maison-Dardenne-Walker, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, May 7th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to a memorial fund for his daughters, Aileen and Julie Toerne, and his grandson Joshua.
