Margaret Fitzpatrick

Margaret “Margie” Sellers Fitzpatrick, age 92, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2021.

She was born April 18, 1928 in Brookline, MA to John and Mary (MacDonald)
Sellers. Margie graduated from Regis College in Weston, MA in 1949 with a B.A. in
English and went on to complete graduate work at Boston University, Wayne State, and
the University of Toledo. She married Edward F. Fitzpatrick in 1953.
Margie was an English teacher for many years, loving every minute of it. Her career began
with Millis High School in Millis, MA in 1949-1952, then on to McKinley School in
Birmingham, MI until 1957. She moved to Toledo in 1960 and taught at McAuley High
School from 1966-1981 and then St John’s Jesuit High School from 1981-1991. She was
awarded the 1979 “Outstanding English Teacher of Northwest Ohio” while teaching at
McAuley.
She was a 50-year member of the AAUW – the American Association of University Women
and Read for Literacy, serving on the board of both organizations. She also belonged to
the Alliance Francais of Toledo and St. Joan of Arc Parish.
Margie had many favorite pastimes, including reading, playing bridge, quilting, watching
Jeopardy, and relishing the company of her many close friends. She was an avid traveler,
having traveled all over Europe and the United States. She also spent time in Africa where
her daughter Amy lived. Margie devoted many hours to volunteering and was a dedicated
ESL tutor to many beloved students.
She is survived by her children Peter (Becky) Fitzpatrick of Pemberville, OH, Amy
(Michael) O’Neill of Farmington, NM, and Tim Fitzpatrick of Telluride, CO, grandchildren
Sean, Bridget, Kyra, Bryan, Molly, Casey, and Kyle. Her sister Catherine (David) Wells of
Danvers, MA, brother Thomas (Sheila) Sellers of Auburn, CA, and many cousins, nieces,
and nephews also survive. Margie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia,
brother Frank, and daughter in law Melissa Fitzpatrick. She leaves behind many, many
dear friends in Toledo and beloved students from her years of teaching.
Margie enjoyed her last few months in the home of her son Peter, where there was always
a warm fire, a dog to pet, and loving family nearby. Her family would like to thank Ohio
Living Hospice nurse Jennifer and caregivers Ann and Rhonda for their excellent care.
You all provided Margie with much love and dignity in her final days.
There will be no services or visitation at this time. A Memorial Mass and celebration of life
will take place at some point this summer when it is safe for all her family and friends to
attend. Donations in Margie’s memory can be sent to Read for Literacy or the Helping

Donna Marlene Haupricht, 85, went to heaven surrounded by family on February 14, 2021. Marlene was born July 24, 1935, in Toledo, Ohio, to Marvin and Irene (Metzger) Mickens. She graduated from Libbey High School in 1953, where she made a group of lifelong friends that she often referred to as “the Libbey girls.” Marlene married Arlen Thomas Haupricht in 1954 and celebrated 63 years of marriage before his death in 2017. She briefly attended the University of Toledo where she proudly became an Alpha Chi Omega.

Marlene will be most remembered for the joy she took in life and multiplied among her family and friends. Marlene delighted in long summer days. She shared this love often, inviting family to visit the cottage on Vineyard Lake or to come pontooning along the Maumee River. From her years working as a travel agent, Marlene learned how to explore the world. She gifted her sense of adventure to her grandchildren by taking them each on an international trip of their choosing to celebrate high school graduation. In fact, if there was ever a reason to gather and celebrate, Marlene wanted to be there (especially if a handful of Ballreich’s chips or a glass of Paramount Blackberry Brandy was involved). She enjoyed hosting holiday parties with the whole family and made sure that her nieces and grandchildren knew how to bake her favorite cookie – the white velvet.

In addition to her commitment to family, Marlene had a gift of meeting new friends wherever she went; no one was a stranger for long. She spent over 20 years frequenting Vic Tanny and proudly earned the title of Life Master at the Toledo Bridge Club. A devoted Catholic, she loyally attended Mass at St. Joan of Arc. She was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan, enjoying game days alongside her rabbit, Lucky. Still, Marlene’s pride in her children and grandchildren was a theme in the stories she shared, which only increased when she became a GG.

Marlene will be dearly missed by her sister, Carol (Chuck) Shanteau; five children, Tim (Pat) Haupricht, Susan Garling, Cathy (Denny) McLean, Tom (Diane) Haupricht and Nancy (Paul) Keeton; many nieces and nephews, but especially Amy (Michael) Siffer and Melissa (Dan) Dubiel; seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Sean) McGill, Shannon Garling, Katie (Jon) Aring, Emilee (Dan) Haupricht, Cortney (Andy) Schoene, Nathan (Kyllian) Keeton, and Amanda Keeton; and nine great-grandchildren. She leaves wonderful memories with Cheryl, Kent, and Janet. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Haupricht; brother, Marvin James Jr.; and son-in-law, Stephen Garling. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-7 p.m. in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, February 19, 2021, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 5856 Heatherdowns Blvd., Toledo. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required at all events. John “Jack” E. Florian (1928-2021)
John “Jack” Florian of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on February 9, 2021. His long time wish was to be at home with his wife during his final days and that gift was granted, which was a great comfort to our family.
Jack was born January 4th, 1928 to Carl and Edith Florian in Toledo, Ohio.
He attended Central Catholic High School where he played Varsity basketball and then furthered his education at the University of Toledo where he played on the Freshman basketball team. Jack went on to play many years in the CYO and TCCY Leagues for OLPH and St. Anne’s Parish, winning many titles.
Jack endlessly told the story about the moment he saw Arlene (Petrie). He knew in an instant that he was going to marry her. From that day forward, until the day he left this Earth he did everything in his power to love her, care for her, and protect her. His endearing love for her was witnessed by their eight children, 15 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren. Jack and Arlene were married for 70 years.
For over sixty years, Jack proudly carried on the family name at The Florian Insurance Agency. The agency was started by his grandfather, Edward A. Florian, in 1907 and during his time there he helped transition the agency into its fourth and fifth generation. Most of his career was spent working alongside his sons, Tom and Gary. Jack had a way of turning customers into friends and longed for each and every one of them to be taken care of the old-fashioned way.
Jack enjoyed golf, tennis, playing cards, magic, and in his later years he was especially skillful at corn hole. He loved playing, coaching, and watching sports all the same. Basketball was his favorite!
He coached his kids at OLPH for many years, later became the school Sports Director, and was awarded the CYO Adult Contributor Award in 1978.
After sending five boys through the St. Johns basketball program, he became a lifelong fan. For fifty years he rarely missed a game! He was later honored for this by the school.
Jack was a member of St. Joan of Arc Parish where he regularly attended mass with his wife on Sunday mornings. Together, they volunteered their time at St. Vincent de Paul Society where he became the President and Treasurer for sixteen years. Jack also was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a Former member of Heatherdowns Country Club and Laurel Hill Tennis Club.
Jack took great pleasure in playing in ping-pong matches with his friends and family. In his eighties, he even won gold medals in three Senior Olympic table tennis tournaments.
Jack had a way of lighting up a room with his blue eyes and bright smile. He encouraged his kids and grandkids to do big things and was always proud to hear of their endeavors. We will dearly miss his love of life, his enjoyment in the little things (taking his dogs out for ice cream and hot dogs), and his care for his family. That is when he was truly happy!
Jack is survived by his wife, Arlene Florian; his children, Gary (Janet) Florian, Vicki (Allan Schnerson), Jeanne (Larry) Loehrke, Janet (Randy) Koschalk, John (Beth Stock) Florian, James (Linda) Florian, Thomas (Karen) Florian, Jeff (Shazmah Hakim) Florian; grandchildren, Mark Florian, Gregory (Sara) Florian, Nicole (Jeff) Hopkins, Kurt Koschalk, Kyle (Ines) Koschalk, Sean Florian, Chris Florian, Stephanie (Jason) Connell, Erica (Jacob) McVicker, Sarah (Michael) Iceman, Emily (Jared) Parseghian, Allison (Zachary) MacQueen, Ayla Florian, Ali Florian, Asim Florian; and twenty-one great grandchildren.
We want to be sure to extend our sincere gratitude to the many aides that helped allow him to remain at home during his final months, weeks, and days.
Visitation and services at Coyle Funeral Home will be private for the family. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery.

Mother of Patricia Bagrowski ’67 passed away:

Gertrude T. Bagrowski

Gertrude Bagrowski, 95, of Swanton passed away February 2, 2021. She was born on November 20, 1925 to Joseph and Anna (Szkatulski) Popiela in Toledo. Gertrude began her working career at 16 at a glove factory and eventually went on to work for Estes printing, the Turnpike Hotel, and airport transportation. She was an active member of St. Richard Church in Swanton where she was an Eucharistic Minister, was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, made rosaries and kitchen scrub pads to donate, cleaned, and performed light office work. Gertrude enjoyed attending festivals and fairs, traveling to visit her family, loved the wildlife and nature, fishing, flowers, loved her coffee, pumpkin pie, playing cards, reading, music, baking, camping, and visiting the Toledo Zoo where she was a member for over 50 years.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her loving husband, Delfin and 11 siblings. Surviving are her children, Michael (Patricia), Patricia (James) Sheehy, Daniel (Cindy), Joseph, David and Ann (Timothy) Giebel; grandchildren, Chris, Katy, Brian, Jason, Justin, Brittany and Travis; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; brother, Edward Popiela; and extended family and friends.

Visitation with social distancing will be held on Sunday from 3-7:00 p.m. at the W.K. Sujkowski & Son Funeral Home, 3838 Airport Hwy. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the mortuary where friends may visit after 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be directed to St. Richard Church, Swanton, OH or the Toledo Zoo.

Mother of Loraine Wielinski ’72 passed away:

Obituary for Dorothy Ann Wielinski

Dorothy Ann Wielinski, age 90 of Holland, passed away on January 31, 2021. She was born to Simon and Martha (Jozwiak) Mroczkowski on January 5, 1931. She was a graduate of Swanton High School where she formed lifelong friendships. Until recently, Dorothy met her friends for lunch at Loma Linda’s. It was amazing because they all still looked the same (in their hearts). Shirley, Joan, Nettie, Bill and Eleanor were in Dorothy’s life even longer than her children.

She married the love of her life, Larry Wielinski on September 26, 1953 and together they raised 6 children. Dorothy and Larry loved spending time at their time share in Key West, FL for many years. Dorothy enjoyed sewing, needle point, bird watching, reading, crossword puzzles and especially her piano. She also had fun going to the casino now and then.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Larry Wielinski; parents, Simon and Martha (Jozwiak) Mroczkowski and brothers, Richard, Jim and Tom. She is survived by her children, Loraine (Tom) Dowley, of Hamilton, MA, Larry (Janice) Wielinski of Hobe Sound, FL, Matt (Diana) Wielinski of Dunedin, FL, Julie (Jeff) Nye of Toledo, OH, Diane (Tim) Stark of Whitehouse, OH and Patricia (Mike) Placzkiewicz of Maumee, OH; grandchildren, Tom “T.J.” and Kelly (Burak Yilmaz) Dowley, Stephanie Wielinski, Sara and Hanna Wielinski, Joshua Nye, Samantha (Anthony) Mason, Alex and Aaron Stark and Monica Placzkiewicz; great-grandson, Cooper Anthony Mason.
