JoAnn M. Homan

04/02/1930 – 05/19/2021

JoAnn M. Homan passed away peacefully May 19, 2021 surrounded by the love of family. JoAnn was born April 2, 1930 to Paul Albert and Clara Grzesk Lautermilch.

JoAnn was a graduate of Calvert High School in Tiffin, and Mary Manse college in Toledo, where she earned a degree in elementary education. August 23, 1952, JoAnn married the love of her life, Charles “Bud” Homan. Bud and Jo were married for 64 years before his passing in 2017.

She taught first grade for over 30 years, primarily at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns in Toledo, Ohio and St. Joseph Catholic School in Trenton, Michigan. She was a devoted wife and mother who applied her “teacher skills” to her children throughout their lives!

JoAnn was a great cook. She knew how to tackle most any cut of meat, and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was particularly known for her coffee cake, and blueberry pie!

After retirement JoAnn and Charles returned to Waterville in the Toledo, Ohio area to be closer to their grandchildren. In retirement, JoAnn and Charles traveled to Europe, South America, Mexico and the southwest USA. They found great people and good stories everywhere they went!

Where JoAnn was, there was laughter and mischief! She loved a party, and enjoyed playing bridge and golf. She treasured friends made throughout her life. She will be remembered for her quick wit, welcoming spirit, generosity, and deep faith.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Homan; sister, Judy Lautermilch; brother, RADM Paul Lautermilch; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Mescher) Lautermilch; and brother, Rev David Lautermilch. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Kay DenUyl; her son, Chad; daughter, Judy (John) Leech; grandchildren, Katie (David) Theby, Joseph Leech, Shannon Homan; great-granddaughter, JoAnna Theby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank the staff at Genacross Wolf Creek for the care and comradery over the last four years. The family suggests memorial donations to the building fund at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway, Maumee, Ohio 43537 or Toledo, Northwestern Ohio Food Bank. A Mass celebrating the Life of JoAnn Homan will be offered on Tuesday May 25 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation immediately before from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maumee, Ohio. Patricia Anne Garner, age 70, of Crossville, TN passed away on May 10, 2021. She was born June 3, 1950 in Toledo, OH, the daughter of Robert Mowery and Donna Whiteman Mowery. She was a graduate of Bowsher High School in Toledo and worked many years as an Administrative Assistant. She was of the Catholic faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Mike Mowery.

Mom moved to Crossville with us in 2020 so that we could enjoy more time together. Although that time was not as long as we would have liked we tried to make every day special for her. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We will miss her.

There will be no services. We ask that you take a moment to remember Pat in your own way. This is the way she would have wanted it. She always put her family and friends first and herself last.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local hospice or to Cumberland House Hospice, Crossville, TN.
