Mary Alice Hackenberg ’63 passed away

Posted by mcauleyhighschool on March 29, 2023

ary “Mickie” Alice (Hackenberg) Lewinski

Mary “Mickie” Lewinski, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 7, 2022. Born March 4, 1944 in Toledo, OH to Clark and Marie Hackenberg. Mary attended McAuley High School all 4 years and was proud to be in the first full graduation class in 1963.

Mary went on to attend the Toledo Academy of Beauty where she earned her Cosmetology license. Mary enjoyed almost 50 years as a hairdresser, gained her lifelong nickname “Mickie” and even owned her own beauty salon, Hair Artistry, for almost 20 years. She truly enjoyed sharing her craft and mentoring young hairdressers in her salon. Her biggest influence has probably been on her granddaughter, Taylor, as she followed in her Nani’s footsteps and also become a hairstylist. Mary truly found her calling in this industry and made some of the best friends along the way.

Mary met the love of her life, Michael Lewinski, and they married on June 10, 1967. They shared a beautiful life together until Mike’s passing in 2017, one month shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Together they had 2 daughters which then brought them 5 grandchildren to love and adore.

Mary was an amazing mom, but her grandchildren really lit up her world. Nothing gave her more joy than to play with them, cook for them or watch them at one of their many activities or games. Mary and Mike were often found in the stands cheering on their favorite players, even traveling to multiple games in a day. They rarely missed an opportunity to catch any of their grandchildren in action.

One of Mary’s favorite things to do was travel. Her and Mike loved the beach and often found their vacations near water. She also loved her yard and spent many hours creating and tending to her beautiful gardens; even creating a beautiful Ohio shaped garden. Always the green thumb, her love of plants extended indoors, as she had grown and taken care of numerous plants in her home over the years. The best time spent though, in Mary’s eyes, was right in the back yard in their beloved pool. Endless days swimming and playing with all of her kids and grandkids in the pool gave her great joy. Mary’s greatest legacy will be her family… some of the best memories they have happened at their house.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Kellie Pawlicki of Waterville, OH and Tracy (Bruce) Mucci of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Kahlie, Kourtnie and Kyle Pawlicki and Brandon (Kylie) Mucci and Taylor Mucci. She is also survived by her loving sister, Rita. Mary also leaves behind many friends that she thought of as family. And last but not least, she leaves behind her beloved dog, Rusty, by her side until her last breath. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Michael; her brothers, Robert and Bernie.

Friends and family may visit at Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, OH on Saturday, December 10, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. Memorials in Mary’s memory may be to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

Rhonda Lynn Barker, 48, who was born on July 10, 1974 in Winter Garden, Florida went home to be with Jesus on March 16, 2023 in Leesburg, Florida.

Rhonda’s Mom (Barbara Petty Cochrane) and Dad (Ronald Martin Cochrane, Sr.) always lovingly called her their little “sugar booger.”  She attended school at Lovell Elementary in Apopka, Ocoee Elementary, Whitfield Academy, and graduated from Calvary Baptist Christian School.  During her time at school, she developed a love of sports and was on the volleyball, basketball, and softball teams for five years at Calvary.  She worked as a Chef/Cook for 20 years.  She planted beautiful flower gardens everywhere she lived, and she loved doing arts and crafts.

She was predeceased by her husband, Mark Alan Woods, Sr..  Rhonda is survived by her Mom and Dad, her brothers, Ronnie Cochrane (Christy), and Joshua Cochrane (Hope), her ex-husband, Jay Barker, her four children, Mark Alan Woods, Jr. (Katie), Brandon Barker (Megan), Brittany Barker (Nick), Michael Barker, and ten grandchildren

Her family is so thankful that God drew her to Jesus and saved her through her faith in Him.  She smiled so much and had such wonderful peace the last couple of months of her life.  Even though she knew her life here was coming to an end, she had a supernatural peace from God as she left us and moved on to Heaven.

A Celebration of Life will take place on April 1, 2023 at 11:00 am at Lake Eustis Christian Church located at 315 E. Orange Ave., Eustis, Florida.
