Cam Metzger ’77 passed away.

Posted by mcauleyhighschool on June 9, 2023

Cam Salsberry, 63, of Hudson, Ohio, passed away at her home on May 19th surrounded by family after living with cancer for nine years. She is preceded in death by her loving father, Clarence Metzger. She is survived by her mother, Sally Metzger of St. Augustine, as well as the love of her life, Todd, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage. She is also survived by her four daughters; Clare (Nick) Mohan, Madeline (David) Neff, Audrey (Jack) Hinneberg and Eve (David) Smith and five adoring grandchildren; Charlie, Ellie, Sam, Liam and William, whom she showered with love and attention. She is also survived by her siblings Daniel Metzger, Julia (Ronald) Andersen, David (Elise) Metzger, her nieces and nephew, and several close friends whom she considered her family as well.

Cam was born in Bowling Green, Ohio and was a 1977 graduate of McCauley (Toledo) as well as the Western Reserve School of Cooking, where she received her grande diplome. She had an appreciation and talent for beauty, sophistication and decoration that spilled over into every single aspect of her life. She devoted her life to raising her four daughters in Hudson, where she lived for 30 years, and many residents of her beloved town will remember Cam for using pastry and desserts at Great Lakes Baking Company as her canvas, where she worked for 15 years. Her hand decorated cookies, which she decorated (usually joined by at least one daughter) in the front window of GLBC, were revered for weddings and parties across town.

For Cam, Palm Springs, California was heaven on Earth and where she found a lot of inspiration for her life in the city’s culture, art and atmosphere. Cam designed and built a home in Hudson that reflected her love of mid-century modern Palm Springs. Especially in their retirement, Cam and Todd enjoyed traveling there every chance they could with Athena, her ever-faithful traveling companion.

She will be remembered for her beauty and grace, for her iron will and strong opinions, and for her devotion to her family, always. Her family has asked that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to Operation Orphan Wildlife Rehabilitation in her name (Attn: Fran Kitchen,1215 W Waterloo Rd, Akron, OH). A private service will be held at a later date.

Margaret Leigh Mangan ’64 Passed away

Posted by mcauleyhighschool on June 6, 2023

Margaret Prebe Obituary

Margaret Leigh Prebe

2/12/1946 – 6/1/2023

Margaret Leigh (Mangan) Prebe, 77, passed away peacefully at hospice on June 1, 2023 in Toledo after an extended illness. The daughter of Thomas and Audrey Mangan, Leigh was born on February 12, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. She grew up in Cleveland and Ashtabula, and then moved to Toledo with her family as a senior in high school. She began working at Owens-Illinois on the switchboard in the late 1960s and continued for more than five decades, including with the legal department and as executive secretary to chairman emeritus Robert J. Lanigan.

In 1978, Leigh married Ron Prebe and became a devoted stepmother to his sons, Paul (Hsin-Yi) of Taiwan and Robert (Melissa) of Athens, Ohio. Leigh also is survived by her grandchildren, Pingxin, Hanen, Anna Marie, Isabelle, Griffin, Jepson, and Nicholas Prebe; siblings, Lynne Mangan, Janet Wiza (John), Patrick Mangan (Julie), Kim Mangan (Lisa Jacobs), Mike Mangan (Laurie), and Shawn Mangan (Tom Nader); stepmother-in-law, Rita Prebe, sister-in-law Sue Emerine (Dave); and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Mangan (David Gaudette); parents-in-law, Bill and Jeanette Prebe; and brother-in-law Edward Blank.

Leigh’s positivity, kindness, sincerity, generosity, and hospitality knew no bounds, and all who met her appreciated that she was genuinely one of a kind. She had a deep and abiding love for animals, including many cats over the years and her beloved “big black lab” Benjamin. However, perhaps her greatest pleasure in life was listening to Ron play the piano in clubs, churches, various venues throughout the Toledo area, and especially at night at home.

Special thanks to Theresa Solly and Vera Huff for their attentive and skilled assistance in caring for Leigh in her last year of life.

Visitation will be at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH 43623 on Thursday, June 8, 2023 beginning at 2:00 p.m. with the Rosary at 6:30 p.m. and family and friends’ sharing to follow.
