Dorothy Mae (Hart) Radocy Obituary

Dorothy Mae (Hart) Radocy, age 94, of Toledo, passed away on May 21, 2018 at Ohio Living Swan Creek.

She was a founding member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, where she attended grade school. She was a graduate of Libbey High School and the University of Toledo, where she received her Master’s Degree in Education. Dorothy spent her career teaching for Toledo Public Schools. She loved world travel with her daughter’s family, with her favorite being her four trips to Venice, Italy. She volunteered for Helping Hands of St. Louis and Read for Literacy. Dorothy enjoyed bowling and was an avid bridge player at the Maumee Senior Center and with friends. Dorothy was always interested in cultural experiences and events. She never missed a baseball game and was a loyal Toledo Mud Hens and Detroit Tigers fan. She also thoroughly enjoyed attending all of her grandchildren’s activities in Michigan, California and Toledo.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Emery “Jim”; daughter, Laura McDonald; siblings, Paul and Jerry Hart and Barbara Stevens. She is survived by her children, John (Susan) Radocy, Mary Pat (John Kagel) Radocy, Kathy Rotterdam; grandchildren, Matt (Amanda), Chris (Meghan), Anne, Joe (Sara), Laura (Garrett Hill), Molly, Pat, Maleah; great-grandchildren, Emery and Norah, Pierce and Jack, Quinn and Gregory and Luke and Noah; and sister-in-law, June Hart.

Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, 1770 S. Reynolds Rd., on Saturday, May 26th from 11 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Interment will be private.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Staff at Ohio Living Swan Creek for their appreciation of her zest for life.

David Lee Toerne
The world has lost a loving father and grandfather, a witty brother, a fun loving uncle and cousin, a dedicated letter carrier, a close-knit childhood chum, and a caring and giving friend. David Lee Toerne, the eighth of eleven children and son of Aileen and Richard Toerne died on Monday morning, April 30, 2018 in a tragic car accident after suffering a heart attack as he was driving to work. He was predeceased by his parents Richard and Aileen, and is survived by his daughters, Aileen Toerne and Julie Toerne, their mother, Carol Tillman, along with his grandson Joshua, all of Burbank, CA. Born on June 16, 1958, David spent his formative years in Maumee, OH and attended St. Joseph Grade School and St. Johns Jesuit High School. A spirit of adventure took him to southern California where he worked for Nielsen-EDI in the film industry after his college days at Bowling Green State University, but he returned to the area that he loved best and settled back in the south end of Toledo working for the U.S. Postal Service. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and O.L.P.H. Catholic Church where he served as a lector. David also leaves behind his siblings, Lynne Toerne (Santa Cruz, CA), Rick Toerne (Annette, Scottsdale, AZ), Suzen Toerne (Maumee, OH) Steve Toerne (Cindy, Waterville, OH), Beth Basilius (Dwight, Santa Cruz, CA) Kevin Toerne (Sara, Fort Wayne, IN) Lisa Basting (Chris, Huron, OH) Judith FitzGibbons (Jim, Trumbull, CT) Thomas Toerne (Kelly, Walbridge, OH) and Tim Toerne (Laurie, Maumee, OH) and many, many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family will be gathering to share memories on Sunday, May 6th, between the hours of 4 and 8 at Maison-Dardenne-Walker, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio with the Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, May 7th at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to a memorial fund for his daughters, Aileen and Julie Toerne, and his grandson Joshua.
