Obituary for Wilfred Carol Borer

Wilfred “Bill” C. Borer, 86, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 9. Born and raised in Fremont OH, Bill graduated from St Joseph’s High School where he played for their basketball team. He received his Associates’ Degree from Tiffin University. A veteran of the Military Police Corps of the US Army, Bill served from 1955 – 1957. He and the lovely Mrs. Borer raised their five children primarily in Toledo OH. He started his accounting career at Standard Oil, then moved to Owens Corning. He found his true calling as a car salesman/Fleet and Lease Manager at Bob Schmidt Chevrolet until he retired in 2002. He and Nancy were active members of St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, where they volunteered with the Saint Vincent DePaul Society. An avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns, Bill tried to pass his love of all things sports on to his kids but it didn’t quite take (thankfully Jason would come along to fill the void!).
Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 61+ years, Nancy (Horn) and his daughter, Beth (John Bermudez). He is survived by his children, Teresa, Cheryl (Bob Bates), Brian (Jeri), and Sarah, his grandsons, Jason, Keagan, Shane, Dylan, Jonathan, and Patrick, his brother, Dr. Ronald Borer, his sister, Janet (James Winton) and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the amazing Hospice of Northwest Ohio, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Toledo, and/or Saint Vincent de Paul Society Toledo. Please view and sign our online “guest registry” at CoyleFuneralHome.com
